Einem chinesischen Staatsbürger wurden von einem angeblichen Polizisten bei Windhoek mehr als 500.000 Namibia Dollar geklaut. Polizeiangaben nach wurden dieser und drei Begleiter von den angeblichen Polizisten angehalten und gefesselt. Sie hätten mehr als 500.000 Namibia Dollar, chinesische Yuan, zahlreiche Fotokameras und Handys sowie eine Pistole bei sich gehabt. Unklar ist, warum die Chinesen so viel Bargeld bei sich gehabt haben, während sie sich im ländlichen Gebiet Brakwater bei Windhoek aufgehalten haben.
Die Zahl der Todesopfer durch das schwere Erdbeben im iranisch-irakischen Grenzgebiet ist auf über 200 gestiegen. Etwa 2.000 weitere Menschen wurden verletzt. Nach Angaben der Behörden werden die Rettungsarbeiten immer wieder durch Erdrutsche behindert. Das Beben der Stärke 7,3 ereignete sich am Abend im Nordosten des Irak. Zahlreiche Gebäude stürzten ein und vielerorts fiel der Strom aus.
Ein nordkoreanischer Soldat ist heute nach Südkorea geflüchtet. Er kam über die schwer bewachte, demilitarisierte Zone, berichten südkoreanische Medien unter Berufung auf den Generalstab. Bei seiner Flucht wurde er demnach von einem anderen nordkoreanischen Soldaten angeschossen. Er kam verletzt ins Krankenhaus.
Der ehemalige Parteipräsident des “Popular Democratic Movement“, Katuutire Kaura, ist nun Mitglied der regierenden SWAPO-Partei. Staatspräsident Hage Geingob in seiner Funktion als amtierender Parteipräsident der SWAPO begrüßte Kaura vor 5000 jubelnden Parteianhänger am Wochenende als neues Mitglied. Neben Kaura seien auch alle engsten Familienmitglieder der SWAPO beigetreten, hieß es. Kaura war zwischen 1998 und 2013 Präsident der „DTA of Namibia“, die kürzlich in „Popular Democratic Movement“ umbenannt wurde. Er nahm 1999 und 2004 als Präsidentschaftskandidat an den nationalen Wahlen teil.
