120 neue Fälle von COVID19 wurden heute vom Gesundheitsministerium bestätigt. Darunter befinden sich 106 in Walvis Bay, sieben in Windhoek, fünf in Swakopmund und jeweils einer in Keetmanshoop und Katima Mulilo. Vor allem aus Windhoek zeigt sich ein unklares Bild, da einige positiv getestete Personen auf eigenen Initiative, ohne jegliche Symptome oder Reisevergangenheit, getestet wurden. Fünf weitere Fälle sind nun geheilt. Es gab zudem keine weiteren Todesfälle zu beklagen. Knapp 19800 Tests wurden bisher analysiert. Namibia hat aktuell 1446 aktive Fälle.
Der Vorsitzende der Bewegung “Affirmative Repositioning“ AR, Job Amupanda, gerät immer mehr unter Druck. Bei einem Medienevent in Windhoek verweigerte er nun eine Stellungnahme zu Vorwürfen gegen ihn, seine Ehefrau und die AR. Es laufe eine politische Schmutzkampagne. Er sehe sich und die AR nicht in der Pflicht irgendetwas zu erklären, sagte Amupanda. Unter anderem werfe die Beschäftigung von Amupanda Frau beim umstrittenen Anwalt Sisa Namandje Fragen auf. Dieser ist möglicherweise in den „Fishrot“-Skandal verwickelt, wobei Amupandas Frau Kenntnis darüber gehabt haben könnte. – Die AR will erstmals im November bei den Regional- und Kommunalwahlen antreten.
Die Übersterblichkeit in Südafrika war in den vergangenen zwei Monaten extrem hoch. Dies lässt die dortigen Gesundheitsexperten auf eine deutlich höhere Zahl von Todesopfern durch COVID19 schließen. Zwischen dem 6. Mai und 14. Juli sind 17.000 Personen mehr gestorben als im langjährigen Mittel. Die Übersterblichkeit nehme sogar weiter zu und lag alleine in der vergangenen Woche bei 59 Prozent. Bisher gibt es offiziell in Südafrika lediglich knapp 6000 COVID19-Opfer. Insgesamt gibt es in Südafrika knapp 400.000 nachgewiesene Fälle des Coronavirus.
