Gestern ist in Windhoek ein regionales Treffen „Shelter Afrique“ zur Behausung in Afrika zu Ende gegangen. Hieran nahmen neben Namibia sechs weitere Staaten der Entwicklungsgemeinschaft des Südlichen Afrika SADC teil. Die Ministerin für ländliche und städtische Entwicklung betonte, dass das Thema der bezahlbaren Unterkünfte den ganzen Kontinent beträfe. Eine Unterversorgung der Bevölkerung mit bezahlbarem Bauland könne zu Unruhen führen. Sambia habe angekündigt sein Defizit an bezahlbarem Wohnraum um 50 Prozent bis 2030 abzubauen. Man rechne dennoch mit mehr als 1,5 Millionen fehlenden Häusern.
Die Stadt Windhoek hat ein Gründerprogramm für junge Erwachsene ins Leben gerufen. Dieses soll arbeitslosen Jugendlichen die Möglichkeit eines Einstiegs in die Arbeitswelt ermöglichen. Hierzu wurde eine gemeinsame Strategie mit staatlichen und privaten Einrichtungen entwickelt. Alle Windhoeker zwischen 18 und 35 Jahre können sich für die Unterstützung bewerben. Die Jugendarbeitslosigkeit in Windhoek gilt aufgrund der Landflucht als besonders hoch.
Bei der Untersuchung einer möglichen Einflussnahme Russlands auf den US-Präsidentschaftswahlkampf will der US-Kongress die Internet-Firmen Google, Facebook und Twitter anhören. Wie ein Senatsmitarbeiter mitteilte, sollen Vertreter der drei Online-Giganten am 1. November an einer Anhörung des Geheimdienstausschusses des Senats teilnehmen. Die US-Geheimdienste werfen Russland vor, sich in den US-Wahlkampf eingemischt zu haben, um dem Republikaner Donald Trump im November 2016 zum Sieg über seine demokratische Rivalin Hillary Clinton zu verhelfen.
Japans Ministerpräsident Shenzo Abe hat wie geplant das Parlament aufgelöst, um den Weg für Neuwahlen zu ebnen. Der Regierungschef, der dank seines harten Kurses im Nordkorea-Konflikt einen Popularitätsschub erfahren hat, erhofft sich davon einen deutlichen Sieg.
