Knapp zwei Monate nach Donald Trumps Amtsantritt wird Kanzlerin Merkel in knapp zwei Wochen den US-Präsidenten in Washington treffen. Das Treffen sei für den 14. März geplant, hieß es am Abend aus dem Weißen Haus. Es wird damit die erste direkte Begegnung des neuen US-Präsidenten mit der Kanzlerin sein.
Im Konflikt um den inhaftierten deutsch/türkischen Journalisten Deniz Yücel in der Türkei hat Präsident Erdogan am Abend noch mal nachgelegt. In einer Rede in Istanbul warf er ihm Spionage vor. Der Reporter sei ein kurdischer Aktivist und deutscher Agent, so Erdogan. Das Auswärtige Amt in Berlin hat die Spionagevorwürfe zurückgewiesen. Auch die Grünen sind fassungslos.
Die Niederlande haben einen umstrittenen Wahlkampfauftritt des türkischen Außenministers Cavusoglus untersagt. Ministerpräsident Rutte hat auf Facebook mitgeteilt, die Niederlande seien nicht der Ort für den Wahlkampf anderer Länder. Auch in Deutschland geht die Debatte über Wahlkampfauftritte türkischer Politiker für Erdogans Präsidialsystem weiter.
Der deutsche SPD-Kanzlerkandidat Schulz hat seine Pläne für eine Reform der Agenda 2010 offenbar konkretisiert. Medienberichten zufolge soll jeder, der keinen Job hat deutlich länger als bisher das höhere Arbeitslosengeld 1 bekommen – nämlich maximal 48 Monate statt wie derzeit höchstens 24. Es gibt aber eine Bedingung: Der Arbeitslose muss sich weiterbilden lassen. Aus dem Papier für den SPD-Vorstand am Montag steht demnach außerdem, dass jeder Arbeitslose nach drei Monaten ein Recht auf eine solche Weiterbildung bekommt. Auf die zusätzlichen Kosten wird in dem Konzept nicht eingegangen.
