Die Mietpreise in Namibia sind im vergangenen Jahr leichtgefallen. Das geht aus dem neuesten FNB Mietpreisindex hervor. Demnach lagen die Preise Ende 2020 rund 2,1 Prozent niedriger als im Vorjahreszeitraum. Dem Index nach wird mit einer Erhöhung der Mietpreise erstmal nicht gerechnet. Die höchsten durchschnittlichen Mietpreise für Städte in Namibia werden dem Index nach in Windhoek fällig, dicht gefolgt von Swakopmund. Walvis Bay, im Vorjahr noch mit den höchsten Mietpreisen, verzeichnete einen Abfall von über 42 Prozent. Auf Platz 3 im landesweiten Vergleich stand im Dezember 2020 Ongwediva.
Die Streitigkeiten zwischen dem Staatshaus und der PDM gehen in die nächste Runde. Nachdem Präsidentschaftssprecher Alfredo Hengari einen offenen Brief von Oppositionsführer McHenry Venaani am Freitag mit scharfen Worten zurückgewiesen hatte, bezichtige die PDM das Präsidialamt nun der Arroganz. Dabei würde zudem mit persönlichen Angriffen von den eigentlich angesprochenen Problemen abgelenkt. Es sei das gute Recht der Opposition, mittels offenen Briefen auf Missstände innerhalb der Gesellschaft hinzuweisen, hieß es weiter. In dem Brief hatte Venaani unter anderem die Absetzung von Verteidigungsminister Peter Vilho gefordert.
Südafrika soll bis Ende April 20 Millionen Dosen des COVID19-Impfstoffs von Pfizer-BioNtech erhalten. Das berichtet die Nachrichtenagentur Reuters unter Berufung auf die Gesundheitsbehörden des Landes. Zusammen mit den 31 Millionen Dosen des Johnson & Johnson-Wirkstoffs hätte Südafrika damit genug Impfstoff für rund 70 Prozent der Bevölkerung. Den jüngsten Zahlen nach wurden in Südafrika bislang knapp unter 270.000 Menschen immunisiert. Aufgrund des langsamen Voranschreitens der Impfkampagne hatte die DA heute die Menschenrechtskommission des Landes aufgefordert, Ermittlungen einzuleiten.
